About

Smart software starts with listening

We turn complex customs processes into software that actually works, with an eye for people, data and continuous improvement. SKAI is that product. Built by Louvels, from Rotterdam.

How we work

Software should not be an end in itself.

  • Understand first, then build

Every engagement starts with listening and follow-up questions. Not with code.

  • Partnership over a checklist

We would rather think along than tick boxes. We are your partner.

  • We keep testing

Our code, our ideas and our assumptions. Everything is tested.

  • Software is never finished

So we build it to grow with your organisation.

Our story

What is SKAI, and who builds it?

SKAI is declaration software for customs desks. It reads the documents that come with a shipment, checks the fields it takes from them, and files the declaration directly with customs, the inspection services and the port community systems. What happens between those steps stays visible: every field carries a label back to the line in the document it came from. Behind SKAI is Louvels. Louvels started out building custom applications for logistics companies, often for exactly the companies that now work in SKAI. At some of those customers, those older applications still run alongside it. So the product did not come out of a market analysis. It came out of the work on the floor at customs desks. That history shapes what SKAI is. It is not a portal you retype a file into, and it does not try to replace your TMS or ERP. It is the layer that reads the documents, checks the data and keeps the connection to the authority alive.

Our mission

How do we work with a customs team?

We work close to the declarants who sit in it every day. An implementation does not run on a project manager who reports once a week. It runs on watching the work: which files come in today, which document is always slightly different, which principal always sends an attachment of its own. That produces the kind of detail you do not get out of a functional design. A supplier who records weight per pallet instead of per line. A certificate that arrives scanned at an angle. A principal who does supply the goods code, but with an internal code in front of it. Things like that decide whether a declaration runs through in one go or whether someone has to step in. What surfaces there goes back into the product. Rules first set up for one customer become configuration anyone can use. And questions that come up after go live get answered on the file they are about, because without that file next to it an error code from DMS is rarely enough to point at the cause.

Team

The thinkers and makers at SKAI

Our solutions are never the work of one developer. They come from a team that listens, asks and builds iteratively.
